Veterans' retreat receives local aid   Forty-nine thousand U.S. soldiers have been wounded in the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan. The road to recovery and adaptation to life without limbs or other serious injuries is often marred with post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury. All too often soldiers who struggle to reintegrate into society fall victim to depression and addiction.  
HM2 Jacob Emmott's Story   HM2 Jacob Emmott, “Doc Emmott” was on deployment with the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment in Afghanistan when he was injured.
HM3 James A. Raffetto's Story HM3 James Raffetto was assigned to the Marines of 1st Reconnaissance and, while in Afghanistan in August 2010, he was severely injured by an improvised explosive device (IED) blast.
ENS Chastity Dunnaville's Story ENS Chastity Dunnaville has known the U.S. Navy since she was a child; her mother and several relatives are now retired from naval service.
GM3 Paul Hurley's Story GM3 Paul Hurley was deployed to Bahrain as part of anti-piracy security team. One night, his car was broadsided in a hit and run accident. He ended up with two badly broken legs and one had to be amputated.
CDR Kim Lebel's Story Commander Kim Lebel was deployed as an IA to Afghanistan as part of an imbedded medical training team. One day, during a PT run, she was shot. She was airlifted out with a badly wounded arm. Her medical condition improved, but what she needed was a little non-medical help.
