The events of the 2015 Department of Defense Warrior Games embody the spirit of the U.S. and British Armed Forces, and celebrate the triumphs, personal courage and of our wounded, ill and injured service members.

Through a partnership with the Veterans Affairs, the VA Paralympic Program Office helps to provide a monthly assistance allowance for disabled Veterans of the Armed Forces, as authorized by section 703 of the Veterans’ Benefits Improvement Act of 2008.
Through the program, the VA will pay a monthly allowance to a Veteran with a service-connected or non-service-connected disability if the Veteran meets the minimum military standard or any higher standard (i.e. Emerging, Talent Pool, National Team) in his/her respective sport at a recognized competition.
Athletes must also have established training and competition plans and are responsible for turning in monthly and quarterly reports in order to continue receiving the monthly assistance allowance. The allowance base per-month rate for an athlete approved for monetary assistance ranges from $566.97 up to $1,070.40 depending on the number of dependents.
Through partnerships with the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, the USOC Paralympic Military Program has impacted the lives of thousands of injured military personnel and veterans. Service members and veterans looking to get active in sports in their communities can visit FindaClub.USParalympics.org to locate a program in their area. Most people with physical or visual disabilities don’t have the chance to participate in regular sports activities. By partnering with community and national organizations across the country, U.S. Paralympics is working hard to expand these opportunities. Starting with official Paralympic Sport Clubs, a network made of hundreds of community-based programs, our reach is growing and the goal is to have 250 clubs in American cities by 2012.

Offering services that enable thousands of Americans with physical disabilities to enjoy a variety of shooting activities, including competitive events and hunting. Competitors with physical disabilities, who are unable to achieve the required shooting positions or use special adaptive equipment, are required to apply for a medical waiver. The medical waiver application is fairly simple and consists of two forms. The NRA Disabled Shooting Service Program also provides links to state websites for hunting and fishing for disabled veterans. Many individuals with disabilities are able to compete by using equipment that has been specially adapted to provide assistance. Adaptive equipment does not give the shooter an edge but merely provides assistance for individuals who are not capable of certain physical activities such as supporting the weight of a rifle or squeezing a trigger. The most common pieces of equipment are rifle stands and power triggers.
